The most challenging game on Earth comes to life in Battle Chess. An entire medieval world at war is reflected on the checkered field.
Everyone who's ever had a knight take a pawn, has seen that capture as more than one piece replacing another on the board. In players' minds, the bold knight, resplendent in his armor of silver or ebon, sallies forth and slays the foul foot soldier. Combat, mortal combat, lies in the heart and soul of chess, but this aspect of it could only live in the mind's eye – until now!
The Battle Chess Special Edition contains three different games, each with it's own unique gameplay, so you can experience the mortal combat thrill of chess more intensely than you ever imagined! Chess is no longer an abstract mental exercise. It is an entertainment that will prove the words of the famous Oriental Philosopher Chef Kung Pao who said - "War is fun!"
It took 2000 years for someone to make chess better!
Minimum system requirements: Windows XP or Windows Vista, 1 GHz Processor (1.4 GHz recommended), 512MB RAM (1 GB recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended), Mouse, Keyboard.

Battle Chess: It's chess, with graphic violence.
Yeah it's great to see one knight dismember another, and yeah it's extremely satisfying to watch your opponent's king get offed. If you never got into chess though, graphic violence is probably not going to sell you on it. If chess is your bag, then this is going to be a fun diversion. Of course, if you're a chess shark, you'll read more
probably find yourself skipping a lot of the animations to get the game up to the speed you're used to anyway, and you'd probably be better off with a game like Chess Master that has more sophisticated strategies built in.

Gregorius:
I remember loading this game again and again down in our basement on our 286 PC. I just loved the animated figures as a kid. It was only a couple of years later I figured how to play chess well. The first couple of ten times we were just trying to get each piece battled with a different other one to see all the animations. For professional chess playing the game could be somewhat frustrating but as pure entertainment it is a really good value.

Battle chess is an awesome game ...but you have to understand and like chess.
The way the pieces battle it out on the board is funny and entertaining.
Battle Chess gets a 4/5 stars from me.
