I am just starting this game and going to complete the 3rd main quest mission in the first act. I have an insane amout of gold and can't figure how I will be able to spend it all. The armor and wepons for sale so far are not any better than what I find. The only thing I have spent money on is Combos and adding stats to wepons and armor. Is this the way it is for the whole game?

Then you must have spend a lot of time looting corpses and getting material in.
I uausally do that in the beginning of the game.
Just to get a head start on the money.
When i feel comfortable enough i just take up things that are worth it.
Things you can eaely spend a lot of money on is increasing the wepstats by going to ye old smitty and put in the most powerfull stuff that you find.
I also invested fortunes in experience potions.
Basiccly i was never running around without the effect :)
Costs a lot of money but since you have enough aswell , why not level up faster. It's not cheating in my opinion.
If you lose interest in sacred , may i suggest you play on hardcore. But beware , once you die , it's over ... .
It's a while that ive played sacred by wasn't it by pressing the alt button you could see the names and the colours of the loot?
Only pick up the ones that aint white or gray.

You must have played it some REALLY long time ago, now you can't buy XP pots. IIRC, it was taken out in a patch.
(Also, I *think* HC was only available on the closed net servers.)

I started as a woodelf and headed out searching all the books.
I seemed that the books weren't completed yet , several quests weren't marked on the map so it was a question of luck.
Did they take out the experience shrines to?
I remeber that there was a shrine in front of the big castle entrance where they send you in the dungeons.
Once you touched this one you could run for 2 minutes reaping in XP.
It seemed this shrine provide more XP/kill then the potions but when touching this shrine first and then using potions to keep the effect up i got the same amount of XP.
I've played through all the buggy game since there weren't patches availbale at that time.
So i might buy another copy here to see the difference.
Any other annoying improvements to the game lijke getting rid of the potions??

I think he's referring to potion of the mentor (blue one, which increases XP gains) which does still exist.

Yes, they do exist (good thing they do!), but you can't buy them.

I never noticed that. But then, I almost never buy any potions anyway. Just the occasional healing potion if I'm desperate.

Indeed, mobs drop too many anyway. Besides the uselessness of money, that's a typical problem of ARPGs. (But then again, it's still better than not having enough pots.)
