Is there any way to slow this game down? The characters are running a bit faster than I suspect they're supposed to. And the little children in the first town I visited were moving at Warp 9.7.

Try setting the processor affinity for the game's executable to a single core:

This is a serious resurrection of a topic, but the processor affinity trick didn't work. I think I may need one of those programs that slows down your whole PC to slow it down. But it's still somewhat playable in its fastness.
