wpegg: I can't help you with reaching GOG support, I am no more in the loop on that one than you. Perhaps a post in the general forums to highlight that their contact mechanism appears to be broken.
I have the installer for Lords of the Realm, If you want we could get you going with a checksum tool so that we can rule out the possibility of the installer being corrupted. I use Checksum For Windows as it's open source, and I can inspect the code I'm running. It can be downloaded
here . If you run that against the installer and generate an MD5 checksum (the default option) then you should get a result of "5c0a32774c01c7571f9cb8fbddc7a489". If you don't get that then we have got different files, so you might have a corrupted installer. You will at least be able to confirm that you don't.
I downloaded it and ran the software to compare. Unfortunately, i got different numbers than you do. The two different downloads i made also came up with different numbers. Is is possible that you may have a different version of this game that worked on your computer but not mine? I have a new computer that i just purchased last week and i did try to download it on my old computer using vista and the file open and i was able to play the game but it had no sound.
Could you go through exactly what happens. It seems strange that the installer won't even reach the first page. Is it literally as simple as you double click on the installer and it pops up an alert with that message?
Yes. It's that simple. Here is the exact message i got " The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86(32 bit) or x64(64bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher."
That's the error message i kept getting when i tried to open the file to install the program.
Have you tried any other GOG installers, if not download one of the free games and give that a shot (Lure of The Temptress is free and a small download).
Yes. I downloaded and installed and run "master of magic" and "lure of the temptress" and they both run just fine.
The only other thing you could try is running the installer in a compatibility mode. Right click on the file, select properties. Then select the tab "Compatibility" and check the box to run it in Compatiblity mode.
Nope. I tried that. still didn't work. Thanks for trying to help, i guess the only thing i can do is deny the charge on my credit card since i can't reach them and i paid for a game that i can't even play.
sincerely,
sperry
