Ive recently re-installed the game on vista, and am trying to edit the weapons.dat file so i can change tank bolters to a more sensible value(bolters carried by normal infantry is 20 range, while bolters mounted on tanks and other armored vehicles is 8 range? Wut.). I remember doing this without any major issues on XP, but apparently vista text editors display a lot of non sensical gibberish(that or the 1.01 patch...).

Ive heard that there were unit/weapon/campaign editors released for the game, but cant seem to find any for download...does anyone happen to have them or know a place where they can be downloaded?

Offtopic : Does armor on infantry actually do anything, like give them an armor save? It really doesnt seem that way o.O.

i never could get this game to work when i had xp so i'm waiting for gog to get a deal are release it here have a feeling it could be a long wait lol

I only know how to edit the encyclopedia, I'm afraid.

But this game is AWESOME! The real inspiration behind Dawn of War, I'd say.

well practicly played it to death but i never played around with the settings

i tohught that c & C was the inperation behind dow or was it warcraft 3?

Im a bit into the campaign, the imperial guard + chimera mechanised strategy worked well for quite a bit, till the orks started fielding LARGE amounts of autocanons. Its just amazing how many autocanons they can field for a low point cost, in comparison a leman russ squadron costs 315 pts and has a tedency to get shot to pieces or routed very easily.

Oh and is it just me or does artillery really suck? I mean, 40% hit chance, 9 basilks firing on a single ork squad, and only 2 die...they really dont achieve much, although collasping buildings for insta kill on ork squads is good.

try griffion mortars against armour as i remeber they can kill a tank every 3 shots (between all your tanks) much better than anti tank guns !!!!

Lol no a single leman russ can kill a tank per turn, assuming it isnt green.

have a look for an editor called Notepad+, it can open almost any text format file and might be able to format the config in a decent way

just tried notepad+, still gives me a lot of gibberish in the file :(.

yes but a leman russ still has to hit first !!!

Barrage weapons have horrible accuracy. 3 veteran basilks cant kill a single 5 man infantry squad per turn, even if all hit the exact tile, often no damage is done.

Oh and another annoying thing about the game : The orks will cease auto attacking after the first 2 times.

At the start of the campaign, they will counter attack you once. Then they will send a strike force after you which you can see moving towarsd you on the map every turn.

After that they just give up and stop attacking you. Lameeeee.
