Oh, and btw I don't think the silly surgeon masks everybody is wearing in Mexico, USA and elsewhere could do anything to stop the virus transmission. Another absurd sign of the fact that the real dangerous outbreaks here are misinformation, stupidity and greed.

HK was like the freaking Ground Zero for SARS, and that was pretty bad. Judging from past experience, it looks like as long as governments don't hide stuff from the people and they actually tell us what happens as it happens, we'll be even more prepared than last time.

Ordinary Influenza kills ten's of thousands around the world annually so why should we get all scared that swine flu has killed 150 people in April? Are we just annoyed that this one comes from pigs?

Because the fatality rate is much higher (about double) that of ordinary influenza, judging by current numbers. And because of the real threat of it mutating again into something even worse.

But the fatality rate is not higher than the average flu. In fact, it is currently much lower than a normal flu. Even the infection rates are currently lower than a normal flu. While there are currently about 2600 confirmed infections worldwide, there are still only 8 confirmed deaths. There are 100+ suspected deaths, but suspicion does not equal an increased fatality rate. Every day the infection rate does go up, while the fatality rate drops accordingly. This flu is currently considered to be rather widespread, but it is not virulent at all and it is still considered a mild flu. There is a concern that as it spreads it could become stronger, but it currently is not at all. You need to stop buying into and spreading the panic and everyone just needs to follow common sense, i.e. cover when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands regularly, see your doctor if you develop sympotoms, etc. and no one will have anything to worry about.

The version of swine flu that is out and about at present is having a slight problem with the "cried wolf" reaction of the public.
A lot of people in my country heard all the fuss over previous outbreaks of SARS, Bird flu and the like, and have regarded this as low risk by association, even though we still know relatively little.
These things have to be treated seriously by government, no matter what the outcome, because of the potential risk to voters and voters families. If something bad happens (everyones been quoting spanish flu in 1918 for example) then we would be outraged if our government hadn't planned effectively to contain and control the spread as well as working on vaccines or anti-viral drugs.
As always however, no matter how bad it is in rich countries, the poorest always get hit the hardest.
Lets all remember two important things:
"Coughs and sneezes spread diseases" and "Keep calm and carry on"
