And what is the ratio between people who buy it at normal price vs discounted price? I guess a lot of people got this game just recently because of the $5 and $2.xx deals, otherwise they wouldn't get it.
The STALKER game was the first example because lots of people didn't played/don't know it yet. As for the other games you cited, I own them all already and wouldn't re-purchase them for more than $9.99.

Activision, you can be a real dick sometimes, but I applaud your decision for coming to GOG. I am even more optimistic than I was when the countdown started! Now that Activision's here, I feel like anything's possible.

You do understand there's quite a major difference in, for example, publishers Adventure Soft and Ubisoft? One of these has the pull to demand the higher price point.
Also, who cares how much these games are on steam? It's hardly an end all argument.

Hello... I've been ghosting GOG.com for a bit now but I'd not mind butting in and saying that Oblivion had its ups and downs tho it was ok.. for the 360 it was more of an achievement driven story (but it did have a story) tho I think the best part of the retail and DLC was the Shivering Isles pack but eh...
On the topic of classics selling insanely at low prices... Steam actually sold out of their Prey CDKeys during the new year sale (in response they redid their Bioshock for $5 deal) but then again they also sold out of STALKER Clear Sky keys while it was selling for $5 too (even popped up a humorous message to those unfortunates about how Steam was waking up the publishers to get them to make more keys)..
Sorry for all the Steam talk but yup... good job GOG at getting Activision on the roster... hope you get EA and talk them out of Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2.... lol

OK - fine. Change the quantifier from "every" to "some". Keep in mind, however, that your side of the argument gets a lot weaker, because it's no longer "every publisher will do so if we allow even a single one this opportunity", it is "SOME publishers MAY do this". This alone makes it worth a try, considering the three types of situations I mentioned elsewhere.
I'm still fairly certain that even the weaker version of the premises outlined earlier is highly unlikely.
Just because a certain price-point exists, doesn't mean that it will be used INSTEAD of another. It will be used when both the publisher and the GOG team find it a suitable middle ground. Ask yourself this - how much would Arcanum be if we had the five pricing options I mentioned ? How much would Gabriel Knight be ?
Exactly - they would either cost the same or be cheaper ! Why are they $5.99 and not $9.99 in the first place ? How come SO many titles are $5.99 ?
Have faith. They will get us the best deals they can. Adding more options simply means that they can offer some things cheaper and other things *AT ALL*.

I think it is all perspective. A title that one person deems worth more than 9.99 and one person who doesn't.
I bought Ghost Recon here for <9.99 on a sale day. Steam had GR and all expansions for 9.99. I bought here because it was cheaper and I knew that there wasn't any chance I'd have difficulty running it. Some games on Steam are listed as being compatible with newer machines but sometimes are missing less-than-key elements like SOUND.
Though I know that the guys/gals of GOG will get me the best deal possible, I know that they will do what they need to get a title/publisher for their catalogue. I know that I would rather wait a little bit more timewise and pay 9.99 or less for a title.

I have faith in GOG wanting the largest roster of games, I do not have faith in larger publishers like Ubisoft for obvious reasons.
And yes, Activision is a large publisher that made Arcanum and GK available for 6 but apparently they're also insisting on higher price points.

Not really. Activision might as well only give us only the $9.99 and $5.99 games. It's the people on GOG that figured additional options (below, between and above) might be better for us all... At least - that's what I've understood from the articles.
Let me say it again - have you considered the games we get for $5.99 instead of $3.99, $9.99 instead of $7.99 and not at all instead of $12.99 ?

That some games are too high priced is not an argument for games being priced too low.

Don't worry - they know what they're doing and certainly won't price the games "too low", as in "unprofitable" ;). Yet - if they're forced to use only $5.99 and $9.99, they'll have trouble placing the games at fair spots that may be below, above or in the middle.
Are you going to argue that the less options there are, the more accurate the distinctions ;) ?

The id software games would be great to have here, but only IF available with the soundtracks, 'cause it's a shame having quake I and II without the music in-game AND without the MP3s for download.
