The game description says that the Northern Campaign is not included... what exactly is it?
Is it a major part of the game, or an expansion pack, or what?

It was an expansion pack where you tried to hold back the picts.
It had some new features, changed graphix, introduction of troop training
It is a pity it was not included but from what I remember it was an expansion pack with a differance...it REPLACED the original missions. if you wanted to go back to the celtic campaign you had to reinstall the game from scratch
( so that might be the reaaon why it was not offered)

Ah, thankyou for answering!
It's good to know, as I was worried it might be something cut out of the original game... but not including a seperate expansion pack is understandable.

Given that NC is said to have replaced the original missions (I can't remember but this sounds right) would it be possible to repackage that as a stand-alone download/install that doesn't overwrite Castles? So you could have Castles & Castles: Northern Campaigns as two different programs?
It would be a shame for this to slip through the cracks...

You are absolutely right, As I had the original back in the day and when you installed the expansion, it replaced the original missions. Not cool. So what I did was had castles w/expansion installed in a different directory so I could play both games.

Seems like it would be pretty easy to repackage NC as a stand-alone, add a couple bucks to the price, and make Castles complete...

QFT. Any chance of this happening?

If GOG will add it, I'm buying the whole thing.

they should add the expansion + the floppy version (since it has more plots) and i would gladly buy it too, hell i would even pay twice the cash

Hi Malorie, what's up? (just a random post, guess I'm just a sucker for cute girl display pics)
On a side note with Castles, they should either release the expansion seperately stand alone or there should be a third game in the series, to wrap it up with modern technology.

Well, as I own a full boxed copy of the original floppy disk expansion, I offered to donate it to GOG in the unlikely event that the issue was tracking down a copy, but obviously that's not the issue. In e-mails with GOG support, they tell me that the issue is rights-related, and that they ARE considering adding the expansion as an additional install included in the download.

If anyone here on GOG wants that, you should voice your support. Contact the fine folks here at GOG.com via the suggestion form and say: "Please add 'The Northern Campaign' to Castles!" And post in this thread too while you're at it. If they see enough interest, they WILL add the expansion. There simply needs to be enough motivation for them to finagle the rights for it.

Add me in as another gamer who grew up with this game and would pay the money in a heartbeat to secure the Northern Campaign. :o)
