The title screen says the game is version 2.1. The official page has a patch to bring it up to version 3. http://www.3drealms.com/blake
I tried patching from within dosbox. When the patch program finishes, it produces the message "This program cannot be run in DOS mode". The title screen remains unchanged, it still says version 2.1R (for registered).
I ran the patch on a fresh copy of the game files, this time from outside of dosbox. When exiting, the patch said that one of the first files was of a different size to what it was expecting, so it didn't apply the patch.

Dont worry about that patch. Versions 3.0 and 2.1 are essentially the exact same. There was one distinction: a price drop. Originally version 2.1 sold for 29.95$, and then Apogee dropped the price, and they re-released the game as "3.0", but the game itself is exactly the same. You have the latest version of Blake Stone.

I did exactly the same! Haha, I thought I was alone in this matter! Good to see someone else trying it...since I like my games fixed and up to date (Im an quicksave/update/upgrade hoar) I tried it too two weeks ago...I was baffled by the same result as you.

Well...good to know its as updated as can be...Although I wonder why GOG don't distrubte that version instead? To avoid confusion?

thx again drmlessgames for the info! ^^

There was an bug with the 3.0 version showing the shareware "buy me" bug in the menus of the registered edition. Joe Siegler decided to give gog.com the older version without the graphics glitch since the old readme was still wrong in both versions and they could not do an special gog.com patched version due to the fact that 3dr lost the source code to the game.
